Paul van Tongeren (1950), studeerde theologie en filosofie in Utrecht en Leuven. Hij promoveerde in Leuven op een proefschrift over de moraal van Nietzsches moraalkritiek. Hij was van 1993 tot eind 2015 gewoon hoogleraar wijsgerige ethiek aan de faculteit der wijsbegeerte van de Radboud Universiteit. Sinds 2002 was hij bovendien buitengewoon hoogleraar ethiek aan het Hoger Instituut voor Wijsbegeerte van de KU Leuven. Hij is vooral werkzaam op het gebied van het Nietzsche-onderzoek en op dat van de fundamentele wijsgerige ethiek en haar geschiedenis. Recente boekpublicaties in het Nederlands zijn: Willen sterven. Over de autonomie en het ‘voltooide leven’ (Utrecht: Kok, 2018), Nietzsche. Serie: Elementaire deeltjes. nr. 36 Amsterdam: AUP (4e druk 2017), Dankbaar. Denken over danken na de dood van God. Ook gaf hij 3 CD-boxen uit met colleges:

Paul van Tongeren (1950), studied theology and philosophy in Utrecht (Nl.) and Leuven (B.). He got his PhD from Leuven with a dissertation on the morality of Nietzsche’s critique of morals. Since 1993 and until his retirement in 2015, he was a full professor of moral philosophy and ethical theory in the department of philosophy of Radboud University in Nijmegen (Nl.). Since 2002 he is also an extraordinary professor of ethics at the Institute of Philosophy in Leuven (B.). His research is mainly on Nietzsche, on hermeneutics and on (the history of) moral philosophy. Recent book-publications in English include: Nietzsche-Wörterbuch (vol. I 2004, continued on: Nietzsche-Online from 2011 on), Re-interpreting Modern Culture (2000), Fr. Nietzsche and European Nihilism (2018).
